1000 Series Basics
- The 1000 Series is a fully automatic, five-speed,
electronically controlled transmission available in Silverado and Sierra
2500HD and 3500 models. The transmission features lockup, overdrive and
power take-off capability (PTO)(1) in Silverado and Sierra 3500 Chassis
Cab models.
- The 1000 Series is actually designed to overdeliver, and
also designed to provide the ruggedness and durability of a medium-duty
truck transmission in a 3/4 or 1-ton truck. While 1000 Series-equipped
Silverado and Sierra 2500HD and 3500 models won't deliver the following
numbers, the 1000 Series itself is capable of Gross Vehicle Weight
Ratings (GVWRs)(2)of up to 19,850 lbs. and Gross Combination Weight
Ratings (GCWRs)(3) of up to 26,000 lbs., ratings that are well into the
medium-duty truck range. A properly-equipped 2500HD is capable of a
GVWR(2) of up to 9,200 lbs. A properly-equipped 3500 is capable of a
GVWR(2) of up to 11,400 lbs. A properly-equipped 2500HD and 3500 are
capable of a GCWR(3) of up to 22,000 lbs.
- At the heart of the 1000 Series is helical gearing,
similar to the patented gear scheme now employed by Allison
Transmission's popular World Transmission products. This gearing enables
the transmission to deliver a "commercial" level of
performance previously unavailable in heavy-duty pickups.
- The 1000 Series also employs electronic controls to
precisely manage both shift points and shift timing. This capability
ensures optimum fuel efficiency and vehicle performance in addition to
delivering outstanding shift quality.
- The five-speed configuration of the 1000 Series utilizes
its greater ratio coverage to produce a superior level of torque and
gradeability at the bottom end, and high speeds at the upper end.
- The 1000 Series offers a "deep" first gear that
delivers impressive performance in lower gear ranges, and superior
over-the-road characteristics for smooth and efficient driving and
excellent towing.
- The 1000 Series is designed to overdeliver and rated at
545 lb.-ft. gross torque and 375 gross horsepower (1000 Series-equipped
Silverado and Sierra 2500HD and 3500 models are actually capable of 300
horsepower and 520 lb.-ft. of torque). The park pawl, which offers
smooth operation when parking under load on a grade, is rated to the
full transmission GVWR to 19,850 lbs.
- The 1000 Series provides Silverado/Sierra 3500 Chassis
Cab users with PTO(1) capability up to 250 lb.-ft. of continuous torque.
- PTOs(1) can power a dump body or hydraulic motors for
generators or tools.
1 Some additional equipment is required for PTO installation.
2 When properly equipped; includes weight of vehicle, passengers, cargo
and equipment.
3 GCWR is the total allowable weight of the completely loaded vehicle and
trailer.
