Torque Converter & Shift
Features
- The 1000 Series features a 12-inch torque converter
equipped with an electronically controlled, hydraulically actuated
converter clutch. This helps enable the 1000 Series to deliver smooth
shifts.
- The 1000 Series employs two modes of operation for GMC and
Chevy Trucks:
- Normal Mode. When the truck is being used for normal
day-to-day driving, the transmission provides engagement of the
converter clutch in fourth and fifth gear ranges, providing a
combination of performance and shift quality.
- Tow/Haul Mode. A Tow/Haul mode is available for when the
truck is loaded (a button on the end of the gearshift lever activates
it). In this mode, the torque converter clutch engages in second, third,
fourth and fifth gears. This avoids heat buildup that an unlocked torque
converter can generate when under heavy loads.
